Terry Blanchard, LDO is our contact lens technician and has, also, been with our practice for over 30 years. Terry is extremely qualified to take care of any of your contact lens needs. Before going into private practice for himself, he was in charge of the contact lens department at Emory Eye Clinic. He not only did many of their fittings but he was instrumental in teaching resident physicians techniques needed for fitting simple contact lens to the more difficult fits, such as, patients with keratoconus and those who have large amounts of astigmatism that find it difficult to wear soft spherical contact lenses.
A fitting for contact lenses are not the same as being fit for a pair glasses. There would be additional measurements needed to draw up contact lens specifications. This is not part of a routine eye exam. Also when being seen for contact lenses, you will not be given a prescription for glasses unless you have recently been seen by one of the physicians and have a current prescription on file.
Our clinic does not have a policy of writing a prescription for contact lenses to have filled elsewhere for a patient who has never worn contacts. If you currently wear contact lenses and are being seen for an eye exam, please let the technician know if you will need an updated contact lens prescription.
By Georgia law, a contact lens wearer requires a yearly update.
At the Griffin Eye Clinic & Surgeons we are able to fit a variety of the advertised contact lenses that are seen on TV and in magazines.
Should you have been fit with your contact lenses somewhere else, you can obtain your records and schedule your yearly update with Terry Blanchard or Leiv M. Takle Jr. MD. That fee would be $45.00 and you would be provided an updated contact prescription to have filled here or anywhere. You would not require a refitting unless you wanted or needed a different type of contact. Should you think you need a different type of contact lens fit, please let the scheduler know this when you schedule your appointment.
